Single-leg combat training: A free partner workout

The power of combat athletes always comes from our legs. However, it's alarmingly common to witness athletes neglecting the less dominant side, leading to an imbalance. The disparity between a favoured 'good' leg and a neglected 'bad' leg can be the thin line between victory and defeat.

In martial arts, particularly those involving kicks and knees, athletes perform what's essentially a single-legged discipline. Each kick or knee is a moment where all weight pivots onto one leg, challenging both balance and power. The athletes challenge is to generate or absorb force on this solitary pillar without losing their composure—even when an opponent has read their move and is striking back at them.

Addressing this gap, isn't just beneficial; it's crucial. And single-leg drills are excellent at evening out the power difference between your legs, by isolating one leg at a time.

The aim is to develop strength, balance, and proprioception—on one leg. This is not about transforming your body into something new but about unlocking latent potential in your current physique and removing restriction.
